Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli helped Royal Challengers Bangalore beat Gujarat Lions by 21 runs to pick up their second victory in IPL 2017. It was an explosive carnage on display as the duo put on a 122-run stand for the first wicket before helping their side reach 213 in the allotted overs.

At the end of the match, however, the two shared a light-hearted moment; in complete contrast to the aggressiveness they had displayed on field with the bat. It was Virat Kohli who threw the questions at the Caribbean all-rounder, who also became the first cricketer to score 10,000 runs in T20 cricket. (FULL IPL COVERAGE)

In a video uploaded by the Indian Premier League on their official Facebook page, Kohli starts by asking Gayle how the latter feels while opening the innings with him. The two laugh about it a bit, before Gayle says: “It’s a great feeling to actually open the innings with you. Absolute pleasure mate. You’re a legend and you have many more runs to score so it’s actually a privilege to watch you from the other end and watch you scoring so fluently. Well done on your career so far and wish you many more runs.”

Both Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli were instrumental to their side’s successful stint in the IPL last season, where they lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final. Recalling the brand of cricket the two have gifted their fans over the years, the Indian captain then dished out a few statistics. “Today (Tuesday) was our 10th hundred run partnership and today Chris Gayle got to 10,000 runs at an average of 40, strike rate of 150 and 16 hundreds. So congratulations on that. It’s a crazy stat and it’s my pleasure to open with you as well,” he added.

Although Gayle has two more centuries (18) to his name, he didn’t seem to mind the small statistical error on his captain’s part.

“It’s fantastic. It’s a very special moment as well. Lots of hundred run partnerships which is really really great,” Gayle added. “And to play for such a franchise as well, things are going really great for me from a personal point of view. So I’m really really thankful for that. You guys are special you know… A lot of talent, youngsters, good fun and it’s been wonderful.”

The duo then signed off with their signature style, managing to win hearts of their fans across social media.
