Virat Kohli equals ODI catches record for India in Champions Trophy clash vs Bangladesh

NEW DELHI: Virat Kohli on Thursday reached a significant milestone in One-day Internationals, equalling Mohammad Azharuddin's record for most catches for India during the Champions Trophy clash against Bangladesh in Dubai.

The record-equalling moment for Kohli came in the 43rd over when he caught Jaker Ali's top-edge off Mohammed Shami's bowling at long-on.

The catch marked his 156th in the format.

Kohli and Azharuddin now share the top spot for India, ahead of Sachin Tendulkar (140), Rahul Dravid (124), and Suresh Raina (102).

Overall, in international cricket, they rank only behind Sri Lanka's Mahela Jayawardene (218) and Australia's Ricky Ponting (160).

The match also saw Shami achieve his 200th ODI wicket, making him the fastest Indian to reach this milestone. The veteran quick surpassed Zaheer Khan to become India's leading wicket-taker in ICC white-ball tournaments (60).

Bangladesh, who found themselves reeling at 35 for 5 rode on Jaker and Towhid Hridoy (100) knocks to get to a respectable 228.
