Virat Kohli compared to Cristiano Ronaldo and David Beckham after making IPL decision

After Virat Kohli announced that he will be stepping down as captain of the Royal Challengers Bangalore at the end of this year's Indian Premier League, he committed himself to the team for the rest of his career.

"I've made it clear to the management that I can't think of being in any other team than RCB and that has been my commitment from day one," Kohli said. "I will continue to be an RCB player till I play my last game in the IPL."

However, former South African quick Dale Steyn believes there could come a time when Kohli does leave the franchise.

Steyn went on to compare Kohli to Cristiano Ronaldo and David Beckham, telling ESPNcricinfo : "It does boil down to the coaches and the RCB management at the end of the day.

"It doesn't matter how good a player you are, you could see yourself walking. We've seen Chris Gayle leave the team, but he's not an Indian legend the way Virat is.

"We've also seen David Beckham leave Manchester United, after playing for an entire lifespan for them, to go and play for other teams but Cristiano Ronaldo recently returned to Man United.

"You've got famous people who play for club teams for a long time, so who knows?

"I know Virat Kohli is originally from Delhi. For all we know, Delhi could say 'come and finish with us'. You just never know.

"It is nice that he has committed himself to the club, and he wants to be there to see an IPL trophy come to RCB.

"He has given so many years of effort, I think that could be at the back of his mind. He's not going to leave until he wins an IPL for RCB."

Kohli has also announced that he will step down as India's T20 captain after the upcoming T20 World Cup.
