Virat Kohli a step away from doing what only Don Bradman did

Virat Kohli's century in the first Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) in Perth was his 10th international hundred in Australia and took him past Sachin Tendulkar for most tons by a visiting batter in one country. If Kohli scores another century in the remaining four Tests of this BGT, it will put him on a pedestal that is occupied exclusively by Sir Don Bradman for 76 years.

Bradman's 11 centuries against England between 1930 and 1948 are the most scored by a visiting batter in one country. The legend did that in the 30 innings across 19 matches he played on the English soil in his career, averaging a staggering 102. 84 with a highest of 334. He also scored three half-centuries in England during that period.

Meanwhile, Kohli's 10 international centuries in Australia have come from 43 matches he has played Down Under since 2011. Jack Hobbs (9 hundreds in Australia) and Sachin Tendulkar (9 tons in Sri Lanka) jointly hold the next spot. Sunil Gavaskar's 7 centuries in the West Indies put him at the fifth spot, behind Sir Vivian Richards, who scored 8 centuries in England.

Virat Kohli's international hundreds vs Australia in Australia

Kohli's best knock among those 10 hundreds in Australia came in the Melbourne Test during India's 2014-15 tour, when the batting maestro scored 169.

His tally of runs in Australia across formats currently stands at 2710 in 43 matches, which gives him an impressive average of 54.20.

The second Test of the ongoing BGT will be a pink-ball match under the lights at the Adelaide Oval, beginning December 6.

India lead the series 1-0 after their impressive 295-run victory in Perth, which included centuries from Kohli (100 not out) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (161) in the second innings.
