Viral video shows chicken being blow torched in shopping trolley behind takeaway

A viral video showing raw chicken being cooking in a back alley, allegedly behind a takeaway restaurant, is being investigated by health chiefs. A clip, which has been viewed 500,000 times, shows a man holding a blowtorch and cooking chickens in what looks like a supermarket cage on wheels.

Another video, viewed 230,000 times, shows someone blow-torching raw chicken through the bottom of a shopping trolley in a back alley, surrounded by bins and rubbish. In the first clip, a voice off camera asks: “Is that safe for eating, that?

It goes on to say: “F***ing hell, I’m not eating that.”

The footage was allegedly taken from behind a takeaway in Middlesbrough. Middlesbrough Council officers have confirmed they are investigating.

A spokesman for the local authority said: “We are aware of the video circulating online and are looking into the matter. As a matter of course we expect all food processes to be carried out in a safe and hygienic manner.”

A tweet by Suzesport.com showing the footage has had 1.7m views - with varied reactions. Mike tweeted: "How can people put there trust in takeaways after seeing this!" While Jacquie JFT97 added: "hope you sent this to environmental health."

Lee Jones said: "In a posh restaurant in London they call it it theatre and would pay a fortune for it." While Spencer Goldsmith said: "Bet someone is there now checking ….. if there’s a pound in the trolly."
