Viral video of worker drinking two bottles of spirits leads to death threats for boss

A boss says he has been sent death threats over a viral video showing a worker drinking two bottles of spirits.

Footage is circulating online showing a man consuming a 70cl bottle of Famous Grouse whisky, followed by a 70cl bottle of vodka.

The man is seen wearing a T-shirt bearing the name of a Bristol-based scaffolding company, along with the firm’s phone number.

Director of Tubular Access Scaffolds Nigel Horlock, who told Bristol Live he does not condone the behaviour of the drinker, says the video has prompted hundreds of calls and emails to his business.

Mr Horlock, 36, said: “The impact it’s had has not been good. I’ve had death threats - people saying I should be killed.”

The video was first published online around a year ago by the drinker, according to Mr Horlock.

But on January 11 the footage was published again on Reddit, where it clocked up thousands of further views.

Mr Horlock said the drinker is a Bristol resident who was subcontracted for a week of work.

After consuming the alcohol and falling several times, the man was taken to hospital, said Mr Horlock, where he was treated for his intake.

However, Mr Horlock said the man later discharged himself and carried on drinking in the evening.

The video was captured at a yard used by Tubular Access Scaffolds, Mr Horlock said, with the drinker and a fellow subcontracted worker celebrating the end of a shift.

Mr Horlock said the footage had been “haunting” his business since it was first released.

“We’ve lost work over it. I just want it to go away but [the drinker] keeps posting it,” said Mr Horlock, who went on to describe the knock-on effect it has had on him.

He said: “I had about 100 emails in a day when it was first published - and middle-of-the-night phone calls.

“They were saying, ‘You’re bullying the lad and making him do stuff’.”

Mr Horlock said the behaviour shown in the video was at odds with the way he wanted workers to act.

“You don’t drink on jobs - we’re a professional company,” he said.

The NHS website states drinking too much in a single session can increase your risk of the following:

  • Accidents resulting in injury, causing death in some cases
  • Misjudging risky situations
  • Losing self-control, like having unprotected sex or getting involved in violence

The NHS adds: “Regularly drinking more than 14 units of alcohol a week risks damaging your health.”
