Viral video of TikTok hack for spreading cold butter on toast hailed as a gamechanger

Breakfast is described as the most important meal of the day and a good start is half the battle in taking on the world.

For many people, that means reaching for a sliced pan and popping some bread into the toaster - no fuss and guaranteed deliciousness.

But is there anything worse than the realisation that there's no butter left out?

Before you have even reached into the fridge for the block of butter you just know it's going to end in disaster.

As with most things these days, thankfully, there's a TikTok hack for that.

Like podcasts, it seems everyone has their own top life trick on the video-sharing platform that makes getting through the day that much easier.

One such viral clip showing the simple way to spread rock hard butter onto toast has been viewed more than 1.4 million times, and it's easy to see why.

All you need is one household item: a grater.

The video on the food blogger's TikTok page has gone viral. (@krisslovesfood/TikTok)

According to @krisslovesfood, all you have to do is just grate the butter onto the toast and voila, it spreads like a dream.

More than 14,500 people have liked the video on the Norweigan food blogger's page.

TikTok users shared their amazement at the hack, but some were left unmoved by the idea.

"All hail the cheese grater," one person said.

"Genius", another wrote, while another described it as "so smart".

"I need this in my life, thank you," another wrote.

The main complaint from people not in favour of the idea was the length of time it would take to wash the grater after using it.

A TikToker said: "This takes too long...too complicated to be a hack. A for effort though."

Another said: "If I'm too lazy to put the butter in the microwave, I'm too lazy to find a cheese grater and grate it."

Whether it's worth it to enjoy a piece of toast that hasn't been shredded by a piece of cold butter, that's up to you.
