SHIMLA: After a video purportedly showing massive traffic jams and large-scale evacuation of tourists in Pakistan went viral on social media, officials clarified that the video did not show Himachal but was actually from Pakistan.
Officials said that the viral video which is said to show tourists returning from Kinnaur district after Sunday’s landslide at Batseri was not from Kinnaur or any other part of Himachal Pradesh. They warned that circulating fake news on social media would attract legal action.
Himachal Pradesh police has issued a warning about the fake video on its Facebook page and people are demanding strict legal action against those spreading such rumours.
A spokesperson of the state government said that the video was fake and that roads in the state were open. He said there were no traffic jams anywhere in the state. He also said that tourists were welcome and requested them to follow Covid appropriate behaviour.
However, he warned tourists against going near water bodies, especially fast flowing rivers and rivulets and to be careful while driving in the hills. He also asked them to be responsible towards the environment.
