Coronation Street actor Anne Kirkbride was the subject of many moving tributes following her death at the age of 60. Bill Roache, who for many years played her on-screen husband Ken Barlow, spoke at the National Television Awards.
This is the moment she first graced our screens in the ITV soap in 1972, a compilation of Corrie scenes and the famous Ken-Mike-Deidre love triangle from 1983.
In non-PC news, a man holding a Channel 7 microphone (the station claims he doesn’t work for them) asked world No7 Eugenie Bouchard to ‘give us a twirl’ after a match at the Australian Open. Bouchard had just beaten Kiki Bertens in straight sets, in case the interviewer wasn’t aware.
Animals and live TV don’t mix, as the baby elephant segment proved on Blue Peter years ago; and in what may be a world’s first, an ITV reporter filming outside parliament is videobombed by a dead squirrel.
David Beckham burst into the public consciousness many moons ago when he chipped the Wimbledon keeper from the halfway line, but anything Becks can do Macclesfield Town’s Waide Fairhurst can do better as he also belts one into the onion bag from almost halfway down the pitch – but he does it on the volley.
Those Game of Thrones bods are proper teases aren’t they? What with the perplexing trailers that we’ve featured in a previous viral video charts and the general lack of trailers for the upcoming new season. But, lucky lucky readers, we can reveal EXCLUSIVELY (if you don’t count the near quarter of a million who’ve seen it on YouTube and all the other outlets that have posted it … and any other trailers that we’ve missed through sheer incompetence) the first footage from series five set in the wild wild world of Westeros. There’s not a lot there, but owt’s better than nowt, as me nan used to say.
Ever thought that Benedict Cumberbatch is a bit of a mouthful to say? Well, here’s a wee compilation of the esteemed actor introducing himself under different names.
Also this week, Will Ferrell shoots a scene (and fells a cheerleader) at an NBA game; warm the cockles of your heart on this chilly January day with a video of baby pygmy hippo; a group of older folk have a go at Grand Theft Auto V; and finally, two bright sparks have found a way to make golf more interesting.
