Viral photo of 'leopard escape from Belfast Zoo' prompts PSNI post

Social media has been alight in recent days with a picture reportedly showing a 'leopard' lying on the road having 'escaped from Belfast Zoo'.

The viral image which has been captioned: "Someone thought a leopard had escaped from Belfast Zoo. Turned out one of the moms from Antrim Road lost their dressing gown on the school run."

Now PSNI Newtownabbey have had their say on the image, which is actually understood to have been taken elsewhere in the UK.

Officers admitted the photo gave them a chuckle but did urge parents to be careful on the school run.

A PSNI Newtownabbey spokesperson posted on Facebook: "Reports circulating on social media of a leopard escaping from Belfast Zoo are untrue but it did give us a bit of a chuckle when we saw this post...

"Doing the school run in a hurry let’s keep the speeds down..."
