GLASGOW music fans will hear the OVO Hydro transformed this November as viral organ star Anna Lapwood brings her groundbreaking arena tour to the city for the first time.
Lapwood, a celebrated organist, conductor, and broadcaster, will perform at the Hydro on Tuesday, November 24, as part of her first-ever UK arena tour.
The tour also includes dates in Cardiff and Manchester and marks a bold new step in bringing classical music to larger, non-traditional venues.
Each show will feature her new bespoke touring organ and is set to reimagine what an organ performance can be.
The tour is designed to blend classical repertoire with contemporary music and film soundtracks in what Lapwood describes as her "most exciting story yet."
Anna Lapwood MBE, who was recognised in the 2024 New Year’s Honours list, said: "For several years, it has been my dream to bring the pipe organ into arenas and show people just how versatile it can be.
"I cannot quite believe I finally get to make that dream a reality, getting to play the soundtracks that have shaped my musical life since I was a child, alongside some of my absolute favourite pieces of classical organ music.
"I've always said that this is an instrument that tells stories; this is my most exciting story yet, and I can't wait to share it with you."
Known for her boundary-pushing approach and broad appeal, Lapwood has gained a following of more than four million people on TikTok and other platforms.
She has introduced the sound of the organ to new audiences who may never have encountered the instrument in concert.
As the official organist of the Royal Albert Hall, Lapwood is widely recognised for breaking down genre boundaries and challenging expectations of what the organ can do.
She combines classical pieces with contemporary works and film scores, often arranged in her own cinematic style.
Her recent concert programmes have included music by Duruflé and Gigout alongside her own organ transcriptions of soundtracks from Pirates of the Caribbean and The Lord of The Rings.
This blend of styles has made her concerts both virtuosic and broadly accessible, attracting a wide and diverse following.
Arena audiences can expect an immersive experience that combines traditional organ repertoire with Lapwood’s cinematic and contemporary arrangements.
In keeping with her commitment to accessibility and youth engagement, a limited number of family tickets will be made available.
Lapwood hopes to inspire and welcome young people into the world of music with these shows, helping to develop the next generation of fans and creatives.
