Viral Irish 15-year-old singer releases single dedicated to music legend John Lennon

An Irish teenage singer has released a single dedicated to musical legend John Lennon and hopes it can highlight the state of the world 50 years on from the original version.

15-year-old Ruby O'Kelly, who went viral in 2018 for an original song about bullying, recorded The Beatles singer's solo track Imagine which depicts a perfect world without war, hunger, or religion.

Ruby - whose previous songs have been viewed up to 200,000 times - wanted to pay tribute to Lennon as the world battles against Covid-19.

Ruby's mother Sharon told the Irish Mirror her daughter's love for music "is way above her years."

She said: "She has always loved this song and the true meaning behind it.

"It's ironic that it's actually 50 years old this year and to think John Lennon wrote about the world and 50 years on it's still no better."

Ruby's dream is to perform and continue to make a different through music, her mum says.

Ruby recorded the song with producer Mark Cahill from Crooked Wood Studios in Co Meath and filmed the video with Aidan Farrelly from Bad Apple Films.

The song is now available on all music platforms for download.
