Viral David de Gea video highlights Erik ten Hag dilemma at Manchester United

A Manchester United fan has released a viral feature-length film of a series of David de Gea mistakes, labelling him a ‘fraud’.

The video, which was posted on Twitter, is over two hours long and includes errors from across the Spaniard's 12 seasons at the club.

Despite the 32-year-old technically now being without a club following the expiration of his contract, United are yet to make any formal announcement about his departure and for now his future is still uncertain with contract talks scheduled.

Just last week, United’s goalkeeping scout Tony Coton told United fans to “watch this space” when addressing rumours that there had been discussions around signing a new No.1.

The film showcasing some of De Gea's worst mistakes has reignited debate among United fans as to whether he should be offered a new contract by the club, and whether his time at Old Trafford should be deemed a success if he is to move on.

One United fan said: “Yes, it’s time for De Gea to leave but he’s been a great servant to the club and deserves a little respect.”

Another fan said: “Without David de Gea, Manchester United would likely not have competed in Europe for several consecutive seasons post-Sir Alex Ferguson. If and when he goes, remember that."

The shot-stopper has been at the club for over a decade, making over 500 appearances, winning eight trophies and four Player of the Year awards.

United Legend Rio Ferdinand has jumped to the defence of his former teammate. He said: “He’s served the club remarkably well. He’s been phenomenal and the best player at the club at times.”

There were calls for the 2022/23 Golden Glove winner to be dropped after the 4-0 drubbing against Brentford at the start of the season, but he remained an ever-present in Erik ten Haag’s Premier League side.

Andre Onana, Kevin Trapp and Justin Bijlow are just three of the goalkeepers to have been linked with United this summer, with Dean Henderson likely to leave the club on a permanent basis.

Whether De Gea will be here to challenge them for the No.1 spot remains to be seen.
