SCOTTISH violinist Nicola Benedetti has cancelled performances at a festival due to a tendonitis in her wrist.

The newly appointed director of Edinburgh Festival was set to perform at Aldeburgh Festival in Suffolk across three dates in June.

While her appearences on June 9, 15 and 18 will not go ahead, the festival is hopeful the award winning violinist will play the closing concert on June 26 and have wished her a "speedy recovery".

Benedetti began violin lessons at the age of 4 and was the youngest ever recipient of the Queen's Medal for Music in 2017.

Hailing from Irvine in North Ayrshire, she studied at Yehudi Menuhin School, a specialist music institution in Surrey.

With many awards to her name, Benedetti is set to become the director of Edinburgh Festival in October 2022.
