Violent thug on early release sent back to jail for being caught with weapon

A violent thug on early release from jail was caught with a weapon on an East Kilbride street.

Alan Craik was this week sent back to prison for 21 months after being sentenced at Hamilton Sheriff Court.

The 40-year-old admitted possession of an offensive weapon - a baton - in Walnut Grove on April 1 this year.

Craik, described as a prisoner at HMP Addiewell, also admitted possession of a small amount of heroin.

Neil Thomson, prosecuting, said he was seen staggering about the street.

Police officers searched him and recovered the weapon.

Craik was jailed for two years at the same court in June last year after he admitted stabbing a man in East Kilbride's Murray Bar.

The court heard then that trouble flared after staff refused to serve him and a pal.

Craik's friend punched another man and a fight broke out.

CCTV showed Craik walking out of the pub, putting up his hood and pulling out a knife.

He walked back into the foyer where the disturbance was ongoing and stabbed a man twice on the side of the head.

The victim suffered a cut that required eight stitches.
