Violent thug attacked revellers in Paisley pub rampage

A violent yob punched, headbutted and threw glass tumblers at punters during a pub rampage in Paisley.

David Moran, 24, lost the plot at The Last Post, in County Square, assaulting three men and a woman.

Paisley Sheriff Court heard Moran, who has previous convictions for violence, admitted five separate charges of assault when he appeared in the dock before Sheriff Owen McGinty yesterday.

The lout, of Glen Street, Paisley, was told he is facing jail following the senseless outburst.

Defence agent Gordon Nicol confirmed Moran was pleading guilty to five charges.

Prosecutor Hazel Emmerson accepted his guilty plea and handed over a list of his previous convictions to the sheriff.

Court papers reveal that Moran pleaded guilty to assaulting Gerrard Armstrong at The Last Post on August 12 by repeatedly punching him on the head and throwing a glass at him.

He admitted a charge of assaulting Michael McDougall by repeatedly punching him on the head.

He pleaded guilty to assaulting Linda Whitten by throwing a glass, which hit furniture before parts of the glass struck her on the head.

He also admitted assaulting Mark Grant by headbutting him.

Court papers also reveal that Moran was pleading guilty to assaulting James Orr by punching him on the head to his injury at Gilmour Street and County Place during a separate incident on March 23.

Mr Nicol said he would reserve his submissions of behalf of Moran until the court had obtained reports in preparation for sentencing.

Sheriff McGinty adjourned sentencing to call for background reports and a Restriction of Liberty Order assessment.

He told Moran: “You have previous convictions for assault and, given the nature of the offences and your plea of guilty, there is every likelihood that you will be put in prison.”

He released Moran on bail and ordered he return to court to learn his fate on January 9.
