Violent thief back behind bars less than a month after being released from jail for shoplifting

A violent thief will be spending his days back behind bars less than a month after being released from jail for shoplifting.

Dane Richardson was released from prison on July 14 after serving time for shoplifting offences in and around Blyth, specifically the Cowpen Quay area.

Now, less than a month after his release, the 21-year-old is back behind bars after being convicted of 10 further offences including theft from a shop, theft in dwelling, and this time adding assault to his conviction list.

Richardson, of no fixed abode, appeared at South East Northumberland Magistrates’ Court on Monday, after pleading guilty to all offences.

He was convicted of seven counts of shoplifting, one count of theft of pedal cycle, one count of theft in dwelling and one count of common assault.

A further two counts of shoplifting were taken into consideration by the Judge when deciding Richardson’s sentence.

At court, the Judge sentenced Richardson to 46 weeks imprisonment for his thoughtless actions.

Neighbourhood Inspector Neil Hall, of Northumbria Police, said: “Hopefully Richardson will use this trip behind bars to change his ways and leave his criminal past behind him this time.”

Richardson was also ordered to pay a total of £1,100 to victims and a restraining order has been granted for the assault victim.
