Violent struggle with police in the early hours outside Perth's Domino's, Perth Sheriff Court hears

It took several police officers to restrain and subdue a Perth man after he kicked off outside a Perth city centre pizza parlour in the early hours.

Officers were called to Domino’s, in Perth’s South Street, at 2am.

But when they took hold of 27-year-old Michael McKechnie, of Kestrel Way, he became abusive and struggled violently. Another constable arrived to help but further officers were also needed before he could eventually be handcuffed.

It took “several officers” to restrain him after he began lashing out with his arms and legs and trying to break free, depute fiscal Tina Dickie told Perth Sheriff Court.

He was taken to Perth Police HQ about 2.15am but he later “completely calmed down and became remorseful,” explained the fiscal.

After he was cautioned and charged, it was decided to release him.

He admitted struggling with police and attempting to break free from police in South Street on November 4, 2018.

McKechnie and a co-accused, 41-year-old James Kerr, of Argyll Road, had their not guilty pleas accepted to another charge of attempting to punch and kick and seize hold of each other.

Sheriff Keith O’Mahony deferred sentence on McKechnie until May 11 and he was warned to stay out of further trouble.
