Violent Scots brothers battered man with Buckfast bottle and Tennent’s can in busy Co-op shop leaving him scarred

Two brothers who attacked a man in a busy Co-op supermarket with a bottle of Buckfast and a can of Tennent’s lager escaped jail today.

William Darroch, 37, and brother Jamie Darroch, 36, pounced on Craig Fox, 39, in the Rutherglen Main Street branch in January this year.

Glasgow Sheriff Court heard the pair chased Mr Fox while clutching the bottle and the can.

Jamie Darroch also pled guilty to the attack in January (Spindrift)

Prosecutor Adele Macdonald told the court there was shouting and swearing before Fox was cornered.

She added: “Both Jamie and William Darroch punched and kicked Mr Fox to the face and body.

“They struck him with a bottle of Buckfast and a can of Tennent’s lager.”

The pair then left the store.

Mr Fox treated at Wishaw General Hospital for two wounds to the side of his head which required stitches and will leave permanent scarring.

The brothers pleaded guilty to the assault to Mr Fox’s severe injury and permanent disfigurement.

Lawyer John McLaughlin, told the court that the accused and the victim knew each other.

Sheriff Joan Kerr ordered the brothers to be tagged and on a curfew for eight months between 8pm and 7am.
