Violent scenes as fans attempt to storm player changing rooms after Junior cup tie in Ayrshire

Ugly scenes marred the end of a Junior football cup tie in Ayrshire this afternoon when fans attempted to storm a block of changing rooms.

The violence broke out after Irvine Meadow beat Glenafton Athletic in a dramatic penalty shoot-out at Loch Park in New Cumnock.

As the jubilant Meadow players left the park, they were met by a group of around 15 Glenafton supporters who had congregated outside the changing rooms to watch the shoot-out.

A scuffle quickly ensued with some fans attempting to force their way into the block after the players.

Glenafton officials frantically attempted to keep them at bay, eventually managing to force the door shut before supporters left the area.

Meadow won 4-2 on penalties after the game ended 1-1 after 90 minutes. They now progress to the last 16 of the Scottish Junior Cup.

Police Scotland were contacted for comment and said they had no record of being called to the incident.
