It is not clear if anyone came up with the French version of the 99 call used by the 1974 British and Irish Lions, when the whole team were instructed to clobber the nearest opposition team member at the first sign of on-pitch trouble.
Certainly, there was no obvious evidence of ‘quatre-vingt-dix-neuf’ being shouted during the match between the reserve teams of Sarlat and Belves last Sunday.
But a huge brawl nonetheless unfolded in the Federal B clash at the Christian-Goumondie stadium with replacements and tracksuited onlookers joining in.
The spark for the dust-up between the amateur teams came when a Belves player was illegally tackled after chipping ahead (one hour, 34 minutes into the video below).
A prolonged scrap then ensues, involving most of the players.
After the mass punch-up eventually breaks up, the referee calls the Sarlat B captain and what appears to be the Belves skipper together, only for the red-shirted Belves player to unleash a punch which knocks his opponent to the ground. He then hits him again before other Sarlat players pile in.
Sud Ouest report that two complaints have since been filed.

A freelance photographer has protested against an unnamed individual over the violence and the Sarlat captain is also said to have complained over allegedly being beaten by his counterpart, for violence with total incapacity for work of less than eight days.
The referee ended the match after the fighting, with Sarlat prevailing 23-10.
