A woman admitted to police officers that she was being abused by her fiancée days before her wedding day.

Adrian Jacks, of Swallow Grove in Worksop was found guilty before Christmas and was sentenced to two and a half years in prison at Nottingham Crown Court for assault and controlling and coercive behaviour.

The last incident happened in September 2019 and the victim confessed to her mother that Jacks had been controlling and coercive throughout the relationship.

Officers attended on September 28 and a statement was made.

Jacks, 34, was arrested and the spent his wedding day in police custody.

Assaults involving strangulation, being pinned to the wall and being punched in her home were also reported.

The 34-year-old was sentenced for 30-months in prison and an indefinite restraining order to not to contact the victim.

Detective Constable Tracey Marshall said: "Jacks is a habitual perpetrator of domestic violence.

"We are pleased with the result and we hope it gives the victim, who has been brave throughout the investigation, some comfort that she will never hear from Jacks again.

"I’d also like to praise all officers involved. Their hard work has demonstrated that Nottinghamshire Police takes all domestic abuse incidents seriously.

"We want to encourage victims of domestic abuse to come forward and seek the right support and help and also to contact 101."
