Violent brawl at pub leaves children in tears as pensioners flee scene

Shocking video shows a violent brawl break out inside a city pub in front of crying children as pensioners are led away to safety.

The disturbing violence erupted inside The Lingmell Pub in Norris Green on Saturday evening, with punches wildly flying, as people are viciously attacked on the floor.

Towards the end of the 66-second clip, a man wearing blue trousers can be seen in the midst of the violence.

He rains blows down on another man, even when others implore him to stop, telling him "there are kids in here, stop it!"

The distressing sound of young children sobbing can be heard, and a woman is seen standing on top of a table, apparently appealing for calm.

Pensioners are led away to safety as the shocking scenes escalate.

The man is dragged away by older men as he batters a rival on the ground.

But he soon returns to the fray, apparently picking up the bottle from a nearby table and hurling himself full pelt into the melee.

Others close by urge him to stop.

After the video emerged, many on social media speculated the violence broke out because of tensions surrounding Liverpool losing their first match of the season, which was televised in the pub, and possible goading from Everton fans.

But that theory is wide of the mark, the ECHO understands.

Police were called to the pub, on Muirhead Avenue East, at about 6.50pm on Saturday.

Many of the perpetrators, and lots of witnesses, had already left, hampering the investigation.

No reports of injuries have been made to police.

On Saturday a police spokesman told the ECHO: "There's been an incident at the pub. There were no reports of a stabbing, but there has been a large disturbance.

"There were no reported injuries and now all parties involved have dissipated."

The Lingmell, which describes itself on the pub website as a "family food orientated public house, bringing the community together," has had a troubled history.

It was temporarily shut in 2016 after a man was shot with an air rifle but reopened in August of the same year after hundreds of supporters signed a petition in support of the establishment.

It was in the headlines again in 2018 after CCTV captured a mass brawl outside the pub, in which a group of men attacked a bouncer.

The Lingmell was approached by the ECHO, but they declined to comment.
