'Violent and controlling bully' locked up for stalking woman for three months

A violent bully has been locked up after subjecting a young woman to a campaign of harassment and abuse.

Raheeb Ibrahim, 25, of Redhill Lodge Drive, Redhill, terrified his victim for three months by stalking her and threatening her when she did not reply to his messages.

Ibrahim would bombard the woman with text and social media messages demanding to know where she was at all times.

The situation escalated on New Year's Eve 2020 when Ibrahim flew into a rage and accused his victim of flirting with another man.

He then pushed her to the floor and grabbed her around the neck with both hands.

He later followed the victim in a hire car and she left her home and demanded that she "get in the car". The confrontation caused the woman to flee in panic.

During the three month campaign of abuse, Ibrahim would regularly demand to know where his victim was and would then video call her to check on her location. If she did not answer he would become aggressive.

He was finally arrested on January 18, when he was pulled over in his car and found in possession of cannabis.

At first, he denied all the allegations of abuse against him and said the woman was making them up.

However, he later pleaded guilty to four offences. These were stalking with fear of violence, assault by beating, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, and possessing cannabis.

At a hearing at Nottingham Crown Court on Friday (October 8) Ibrahim was jailed for two-and-a-half years. He was also handed a restraining order preventing him from contacting his victim for five years.

Police Investigator Christopher Smith, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Ibrahim is a violent, cowardly and controlling bully who mounted an appalling campaign of harassment against a young woman who was left in very real fear for her safety.

“His behaviour throughout this period was genuinely shocking and I am pleased he has now been brought to justice. The victim, in this case, acted with commendable courage and dignity to bring this disgraceful behaviour to our attention and give such compelling evidence throughout the judicial process. I hope this sentence provides her with some degree of comfort.”
