'Violence of this kind will not be tolerated' Cops' message after killer of Glasgow gangland figure Omer Sadiq admits guilt

Police have issued a strong message saying 'violence of this kind will not be tolerated in our communities' after the killer of Glasgow gangland figure Omer Sadiq admitted his guilt.

Hashim Uddin, 28, pled guilty to the culpable homicide of Sadiq and admitted attacking him at Uddin's home in Pollok on September 15, in an apparent row over a dog.

The 32 year-old was knifed twice with a hunting blade and later died in hospital from his wounds.

Uddin faced a murder charge but it was reduced by prosecutors.

Police have now released a picture of the killer who will return to be sentenced on June 22.

Sadiq was found seriously injured on Boydstone Road near to the Silverburn shopping centre.

He was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where he died a short time later.

Uddin entered his guilty plea when he appeared at the High Court today.

Detective Chief Inspector Peter Sharp from Greater Glasgow CID warned that violence would not be tolerated on the city's streets.

He said: “Our thoughts and condolences remain with Mr Sadiq’s family, who have been left devastated by his death.

“I hope today’s outcome will offer them some comfort, and allow them to move forward.

“Violence of this kind will not be tolerated in our communities, and Police Scotland will always ensure those who commit violent offences are brought to justice.”

The court had heard claims that Uddin had been having an affair behind the back of his wife Iqraa Malik.

On the day of the killing he called his wife's mum to say he was leaving her

Sadiq - married to Iqraa's sister - told a relative he would go to Uddin's home and "everything would be fine".

Miss McQuillan said what then exactly happened at the flat was unclear but it appeared that when Sadiq turned up with his dog violence broke out.

They rowed over bringing the animal and a fight ensued where Sadiq suffered two stab wounds.

Sadiq discovered he was bleeding heavily as he drove away with his wife.

He was rushed to hospital and never recovered.

Uddin handed himself into police the next month.

Huge £25,000 rewards had been put up by crime figures in Glasgow for information on the alleged killer.
