Violence broke out in Kaval Byrasandra, D.J. Halli, after a mob gathered in the area protesting against an alleged inflammatory social media post on Tuesday late night. Groups of people torched a few cars, and pelted stones. The police used tear gas to quell the violence.

Bengaluru City Police Commissioner Kamal Pant said curfew has been imposed in the police station limits to bring the situation under control.

The mob threw stones and attacked the house of Akhanda Srinivas Murthy, MLA, whose relative allegedly put up the post. He has since claimed that his Facebook account was hacked.

Fire tenders and additional strike forces were rushed to the spot. The situation was volatile, when reports last came in. No other confirmed details were available.

Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai said the nature of the incident indicated a conspiracy.
