BJP workers set fire to the CPI(M) State office in Agartala and burnt down several vehicles parked outside on Wednesday. The workers were protesting a clash with CPI(M) cadres at Dhanpur in Sepahijala district recently.

The hooligans also attacked the office of Pratibadi Kalam, a vernacular daily, and ransacked the building. The vehicle of its editor was vandalised and motorbikes of journalists were burnt.

Three journalists were injured and two of them were admitted  to hospital.

The office of Daily Desher Katha, CPI(M) mouthpiece, was also raided and ransacked.

Souces said the attacks on three separate buildings in Melarmath locality in Agartala were pre-planned in wake of recent political programmes of the opposition CPI(M) which drew huge crowds.

The Trinamool Congress also launched hectic programmes to build the organisation ahead of the Assembly elections slated for early 2023.

CPI(M) alleged that police and paramilitary troops were mere spectators when the attacks were taking place. The party said senior leaders would speak about the incidents at a press conference.

Fire tenders were pressed into service to douse fire at CPI(M) party office. The statue of Dasarath Deb, the State's first tribal Chief Minister, was also damaged.

Meanwhile Tripura Journalists Union has condemned the attacks on the newspaper office that left three journalists injured.
