Vintage photos of Londoners enjoying the snow after cold snap hits UK

These stunning photos turn back the clock for a look at some of the heaviest snowfalls the capital has seen over the years.

It comes as London and the UK is gripped by a chill which could see further snow fall across the capital.

Last year, during the so-called 'Beast from the East' weather pattern, thousands of Londoners took snaps showing the capital looking like a winter wonderland.

Looking back 60 or 70 years, we can see snow in winter used to be much heavier, with huge dumps of snow hitting London in winter.

From Hamsptead Heath to Brixton, Londoners can be seen making the most of the outdoors.

A cheeky skier has been snapped in Earls Court in the early sixties, the daring chap being pulled by a car on his skis.

Images from as far back as 1931, show a group of gentlemen enjoying an impromptu snowball fight in Trafalgar Square.

And two children – in shorts and knee high socks – brave the chilly conditions to build a snowman in Finsbury Park in 1935.

A group of brave women also took to the snow in 1935, wearing only their swimming costumes to have a snowball fight.

A cold wind chill is set to hit most of the South East this weekend, but with the chance of snow on Monday as temperatures plummet to 5C.
