Vinny Perth addresses Dundalk takeover talk as he sends message to current owners

Dundalk boss Vinny Perth admits he is merely a pawn in the ongoing talks between owners Peak6 and a number of interested buyers in the club.

The manager, who’s future beyond this season remains up in the air, has urged his current bosses to instil community spirit back into the club – whatever happens.

It has been a season to forget at Oriel Park with a dire season on the pitch coupled with supporter unrest and anti-Peak6 protests at most home games.

A change of ownership may be in the offing with the US-based hierarchy in talks with a number of interested buyers in recent weeks.

Speaking after Friday’s crucial 1-0 win over Waterford, Perth confirmed he had spoken to his bosses and urged them to put the community back at the heart of the club.

But he added he was not personally getting behind any particular bid.

“It’s not my place to back anybody,” he said. “I’m just a pawn here in the stuff.

“I’m saying that the DNA in Dundalk was all about the community and I believe that was still there when PEAK6 took over. My discussions with the club at the moment are that they keep the heart of the community in this club.

“They need to understand that if the club is going to change hands that they pick the right people who have the DNA of Dundalk at their heart.

“I’ve pleaded with them and there’s no doubt there are people interested in our club.

“I don’t think that’s a secret but at the same time I’ve made a real plea with them to support this club and this town in the right decision that they make.

“If we have success on the pitch that’s great. I’m not from the town but I certainly feel like I am.

“I would hope and I have pleaded with the club that they give the right people, if they’re going to let it change hands, the
opportunity to rebuild this great club again.”
