Vinnie Jones shares his take on Marcelo Bielsa and the elephant in the room

Marcelo Bielsa will remain at the helm of Leeds United next season according to former player and favourite Vinnie Jones – but the ex-midfielder feels that the club “fell short again” this year.

The Whites led the race for promotion to the Premier League from the Championship for most of the season and were sat atop the table on Christmas.

However, a late wobble across the second half of the campaign saw them miss out on automatic promotion before they fell to Derby County with a 4-3 aggregate defeat in the play-off semi-finals.

Speculation has been rife that Bielsa could very well exit Elland Road in search of a fresh challenge after his side’s near-miss, though there is an increasing hope he will stay in charge in West Yorkshire.

Jones, who spent just over a season with the club, helping them to the Second Division title in 1990, has now weighed in on the matter, stating that he ultimately feels the Argentine is set to take charge for a second season.

The former Wimbledon man did however add that he believed United could and should have done better given the position they found themselves in at various points throughout the campaign.

“I’m on the forum with the Leeds United trust and they sent him [Bielsa] a great letter saying what a good job he’s done, but we fell short again this season,” Jones told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Show on talkSPORT .

“There are other big names around, Big Sam is being punted about, but from what I read Leeds fans are quite happy with Bielsa and I don’t think there’s going to be a change this summer.”
