Vinnie Jones says 'laughable' burglar he wrestled to the ground accused him of assault

Vinnie Jones says he was once accused of assault by a burglar he'd found trying to steal his TV.

The actor had popped out to the chip shop when he returned home to find four men rummaging through his belongings.

And he says that the one he managed to grab hold of and pin down until police arrived tried to turn the tables on him and have him arrested.

The Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels star told The Sun : "It startled him seeing me. I wasn’t having it.

"I chased one of them across some gardens, grabbed him to the ground and dragged him to a house and got them to call the police.

"I nearly ended up on an assault charge because he claimed I’d assaulted him. It was laughable what he was saying. Nothing came of it."

It happened in the early 1990s when the hardman was a footballer playing for Leeds.

The 56-year-old also said that his family's pet dog was once stolen and that he and late wife Tanya once disturbed people trying to raid their London home.

He said he's been targeted a lot and has been left feeling "vulnerable" because of it, saying that if he can be a victim, anyone can.

Vinnie tragically lost his beloved wife Tanya to cancer in July 2019, and found lockdown incredibly difficult without her.

Paying tribute on what would have been her 55th birthday, he shared pictures of her earlier this year on Instagram, writing: "A happy birthday to a beautiful girl."

Talking about lockdown, Vinnie said on Good Morning Britain: "The weight of grief is just massive.

"More than anything I've ever dealt with in my life, and you're fighting it off every day - I just want everyone to know.

"I worked a lot with charities over the last two years, and other fellas can go and get help."

When asked how to coped without his wife by his side, he went on: "I don't know whether it helped me or made it heavier. I was in LA and I had some great friends around me, but you're locked away looking out the window.

"Looking over to the couch where she'd be sitting. So that kind of thing was quite brutal.

"I had a lot of FaceTime calls with friends; friends get you through it in the end - real good friends come to the front."
