Vinnie Jones broke down tears while reading a card his late wife gave him just weeks before she died.
During a new interview, the actor, 54, read the message aloud for the first time following Tanya’s death, at the age of 53, on July 6.
The card read: “Always believe something wonderful is about to happen."
Inside it, Tanya wrote: “To my love Vin, something wonderful happens to me every day. It’s being with you. You are my morning sunshine the moment I wake. All my love, Tanya.”
Speaking about the card, Vinnie told the Sunday Mirror: “She left it with her precious diaries.
“I broke down when I read it because I loved her like that too.”
Tanya fought a six-year cancer battle after being diagnosed with melanoma in 2013. Last year, it spread to her brain.
Describing their last few months together, Vinnie said: “She thought that was probably her last Christmas. I would never accept it.
“It was uncontrollable what happened. We were all there with her but it was uncontrollable what happened.”
Vinnie said he now considers himself to be “in heaven’s waiting room,” adding: “Yeah I’m going to get on with my life, I’m going to crash through it, and this, that and the other, but in terms of the universe, it wouldn’t be the smallest dot, that’s how I look at it.
“Basically I’ve got a few years I’ve to wait now until we’re back together.”
The couple got married in 1994 and share a daughter Kaley, who Vinnie adopted.
Since the interview has been published, he has revealed he has received supportive from friends.
Posting on Twitter yesterday, he said: “A message I’ve received this morning. ‘Hi Vin I just read the interview in the Sunday mirror. You and Tan’s have the truest love and I feel so honored to have been able to see it. It’s what all relationships should strive for, stay strong I’m here if you ever need to talk xxxx'."
Tributes poured in for Tanya after he death was announced.
Good Morning Britain presenter Piers Morgan wrote on Twitter: “Such desperately sad news that Tanya Jones has lost her long battle against cancer, aged just 53. She was a delightful woman, and a truly courageous fighter.
“My deepest condolences to Vinnie & all the family. RIP Tanya.”
Leeds United, who Vinnie previously played for, said: “The thoughts of everyone at #LUFC are with Vinnie Jones, and the family and friends of his wife Tanya, who has sadly passed away.”
Another of his previous clubs, Chelsea, added: “Our thoughts are with former Blue Vinnie Jones following today’s very sad news.”
