Melbourne vice-captain Jack Viney has turned his back on AFL free agency in favour of re-signing with the Demons for another five years.
Viney, 26, was out of contract and a restricted free agent at season's end, with interest from Geelong, but having signed until the end of 2025 he is now set to see out his career at Melbourne.
"By signing a long-term deal, Jack has shown belief in his teammates, his coaches and the club, which is exciting for everyone," Melbourne general manager of football operations Josh Mahoney said.
"Jack is a passionate Melbourne person and player, and has been since day one.
"He is a man of great integrity, who really drives standards among the playing group.
"At just 26, we think his best footy is still in front of him. We look forward to him building on his great contribution to the game, as a Demon."
The son of club great Todd Viney, the midfielder joined Melbourne as a father-son selection in 2012 and has since played 135 games across eight seasons, including winning the club's best and fairest in 2016.
Viney co-captained the Demons between 2017 and 2019 but was demoted to vice-captain in favour of Max Gawn ahead of the current campaign.
Despite that disappointment, he was one of Melbourne's better performers, averaging 19.9 disposals across 16 games and finishing third in the club's best and fairest.
