Vindictus: Defying Fate Beginner’s Guide – Classes, Abilities & More

Vindictus: Defying Fate is an action-RPG where you have to choose your character and progress through the story by defeating strong enemies and tough bosses. The game features tons of mechanics that can become confusing, especially if you haven't played a game like this one before. That is why this Vindictus: Defying Fate beginner's guide will show you everything you need to know to become the best.

How to Defeat Bosses

As you progress through the story, you'll encounter tons of strong bosses. While some fights will be easy for you, some of these enemies will have a lot of HP and hit like a truck. Depending on the character you choose, you'll want to have different game plans on how to defeat the boss in Vindictus.

The best tip that applies to all characters is that you should keep dodging attacks and try to stagger the enemy. In case of certain characters like Delia or Fiona, you can use your armaments to parry attacks and hit the enemy with your counterattack.

Do not overcommit your combos, especially if you are playing Lann. Due to his low HP and defense, you will always get staggered by the attacks and lose tons of health. As soon as you see the enemy starting to attack, move out of the way or stop doing your combo. Most of the bosses give you ample time to attack them once their attacks are done.

Some bosses have attacks that cannot be parried. They are highlighted in yellow, and you must dodge them because they deal a lot of damage. Keep evading and try to fill up the stagger meter of the boss so that you can hit them with your finisher and take out a good chunk of their health bar.

Best Class

Choosing the ideal class according to your playstyle will help you progress through the game easily. There are four characters in Vindictus: Lann, Fiona, Karok, and Delia. All of them play differently, so make sure that you check out our class guide to see which one is suited for your playstyle.

For newer players, we suggest picking Fiona as she has balanced stats and can parry enemy attacks. However, if you are experienced with the game, using Lann or Delia will allow you to use them at their maximum potential. However, they have a steeper learning curve, so newer players may have issues using their skills and combos.

Best Abilities in Vindictus: Defying Fate

Since each class has different abilities, we will show you the best ones to invest in early for each of them so that you can take on larger enemies without any issues.

Characters Abilities to Unlock Early
Fiona Class in Vindictus
Fiona
Shield Bash - Fiona uses her shield to damage all enemies in front of her. This is a great way of staggering bosses.
Shield Charge - Use this to charge in a direction and deal damage to all enemies.
Delia Class in Vindictus Defying Fate
Delia
Blue Rose Crush - Deals high damage to a single target.
Fearless Slash - This is a good early game ability used for staggering enemies.
Karok Class in Vindictus
Karok
Kodiak Rush - Attack multiple enemies.
Earthquake - Deals AoE damage and staggers all enemies.
Lann Class in Vindictus
Lann
Cross Assault - Deals good stagger single-target damage.
Windmill - This is a good ability to deal AoE damage.
Raging Fever - Can be used again to deal damage multiple times to a target.

All of the abilities mentioned are worth unlocking and upgrading. This is because they deal a lot of stagger damage and can knock back enemies. This is a great way of stopping enemies or bosses from completing their combo. Plus, some abilities like Karok's Earthquake deal tons of AoE damage, which is useful when fighting multiple enemies at once.

You'll need to collect ability points to unlock these. The points can be found spread across the map, either in hidden areas or random chests that you can find during your journey. Defeating certain bosses will also give you ability points.

How to Level Up Abilities

While leveling up happens automatically after you defeat enough enemies, you must rest at campsites to regain HP and refill your flasks. In Vindictus, campsites act like bonfires from Dark Souls. Here, you can:

  • Use ability points to level up or unlock new abilities
  • Rest to restore your HP
  • Change outfits
  • Find your character's stats
  • Access your storage.

How to Get More Resources

Finding resources is crucial in Vindictus: Defying Fate, as it allows you to get more money to buy outfits and other items. Plus, you can find useful materials and ability points which are required to unlock or level up your abilities to become stronger.

While you can stick to the main path to defeat all enemies and progress the narrative, you should try to explore as much as you can. The map is filled with hidden details that you must uncover, like hidden paths or areas where you fight optional bosses. You can also find hidden treasure chests in areas away from the main path.

Defeating certain enemies also rewards you with materials or resources you can use to upgrade your character. Keep in mind that the optional bosses have a higher difficulty than the normal ones, so you might have to retry the fights a few times.

How to Unlock Cosmetics

Unlocking cosmetics is a fun way to express yourself, even if they don't have special stats or boosts. Since the game doesn't outright explain this mechanic, you have to go to the menu and open the Kalbram Supples. Here, you'll see daily and challenge missions that you can complete to earn a special currency.

The more you earn, the more rewards you can unlock. It is like a battlepass, but it is free for all players. All you need to do is complete missions, which can usually be done by simply progressing through the game, as most of them involve defeating a number of enemies or certain bosses.

That's everything you need to know about the Vindictus: Defying Fate beginner's guide. The game features tons of content that can be overwhelming for newer players, but with this guide, you'll be ready to take on even the strongest foes.
