Vincent Kompany stance on Tottenham job revealed as Daniel Levy urged to land Burnley boss

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has been urged to land Burnley boss Vincent Kompany as the successor to Antonio Conte as head coach at the club. It comes as the former Manchester City defender impresses with the Clarets, while Spurs have a huge decision to make over their project for the future.

Conte has had a tough season, having been knocked out of all cup competitions without much of a fight and with only the top four left to play for in the Premier League. As the Italian's contract nears the end and doubts creep in over his future, the latest outburst after a draw against Southampton suggested there was plenty of unrest.

"I'm not used to seeing this type of situation. I see a lot of selfish players and I don't see a team," The manager told reporters after the clash. "We are 11 players that go into the pitch. I see selfish players, I see players that don't want to help each other and don't put their heart [in]."

As replacement options for the summer continue to be linked with the north London club, former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino has urged Levy to approach Kompany with the role. He told the Times: "In the past Tottenham have just made an obvious choice, picking managers with the best CVs, but it’s time for them to be brave, especially as Harry Kane may well depart, which would create a completely new dynamic at the club.

"I think Vincent Kompany would be an excellent appointment after his miraculous feats at Burnley this season. He’s had little money but transformed them, adopting a new playing style."

The Belgian boss has certainly impressed, though not quite with the little money suggested, given Burnley have spent the most money in the Championship by some distance - as many sides only made free signings - with a total reaching nearly £35million and parachute payments and player sales to support such incomings. Though with the side well on course to reach the Premier League once again and with a transformation in playing style, there's plenty to be admired.

However, Kompany may have already made his stance clear on any potential move in the coming months after a previous report on a managerial switch. Alan Nixon reported back in December that the Clarets were concerned that the Belgium national team could come calling for the manager to take the reigns.

While it was a possibility, the former defender was said to be loyal to Burnley as he appreciated being given his first chance to manage in England with them.
