Vincent Kompany sends classy Liverpool message after Premier League title admission

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has provided some complimentary comments on Liverpool after his side edged the Reds to the Premier League title.

The Reds were handed hope early on the final day of the Premier League season when they led 1-0 against Wolves at the same time that Brighton took a lead at home to Man City .

Jurgen Klopp's side moved further in front against Wolves but Man City responded by cruising to a 4-1 victory thanks to goals from Sergio Aguero, Aymeric Laporte, Riyad Mahrez and Ilkay Gundogan.

But Kompany has hailed Liverpool for pushing his team all the way, with the defender admitting his side 'over-achieved' by winning their last 14 games in succession.

"It was the hardest and the most satisfying ever," Kompany told Sky Sports.

Trent Alexander-Arnold beats Andy Robertson to slice of history as Liverpool full-backs prove football's evolution

"Liverpool were exceptional. I don't mean to rub it in. There didn't deserve to be a loser but we played so well all season with our backs against the wall.

"I am so happy for myself but for the team and the fans. We heard Brighton fans singing 1-0 to Liverpool.

"But we have come back before and we were magnificent. It's a combination, the group of players and the staff as well.

"We have got an incredible desire to over-achieve. We are looking forward to the FA Cup final. We are going to celebrate but we are looking to the next game now as well.

The cruel twist that came for Liverpool in greatest ever title race with Manchester City

"We all chipped in (with goals) in the season. We talk about goals but also how many clean sheets we had in the last 15 games.

"We conceded from a set piece because we are probably the smallest team in the league but we won plenty of games 1-0 this season."

Liverpool return to action when they meet Tottenham in the Champions League final in Madrid on June 1.
