Vincent Kompany sent a stirring message to his Manchester City teammates before his exit was confirmed.
The Belgian defender announced his exit on Sunday and confirmed he will be taking over as player-manager at former club Anderlecht.
Kompany, 33, ended his 11-year stint at the Etihad with the FA Cup as City completed an unprecedented treble by thrashing Watford .
The only trophy that eluded City, and has done throughout Kompany's time with the club, is the Champions League after the quarter-final defeat to Tottenham .
And Kompany has urged his teammates to go out and claim European honours next term, reports the Mail.
As City's squad and their families celebrated the 6-0 win at the Wembley Hilton hotel, Kompany told them: "The Champions League, it's the only one we're missing."
Pep Guardiola's men were beaten over two legs by Spurs with the Champions League continuing to elude them.
They have only reached the semi-finals once before, in 2016, and have been knocked out in the last eight in each of the last two seasons.
Guardiola has also struggled to achieve European glory since leaving Barcelona , only reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League while at Bayern Munich.

Meanwhile, Guardiola has reportedly identified Leicester defender Harry Maguire as his first-choice replacement for Kompany.
Guardiola is a big fan of Maguire but Leicester have no plans to sell the England international, who signed a five-year deal last year.
Any deal is likely to cost at least £75m and could even be worth more than what Liverpool paid for Virgil van Dijk in 2018.
