Vincent Kompany has questioned Uefa’s decision to ban Manchester City’s supporters from Tuesday night’s Champions League match against CSKA Moscow after the Russians rescued a valuable point with a late penalty that leaves Manuel Pellegrini’s side with an uphill struggle to qualify for the knockout stages.
City have made an official complaint regarding the presence of some CSKA spectators in the stadium despite being told they must play the match behind closed doors following a series of incidents, some of them racist. Goals from Seydou Doumbia and a late penalty from Bebras Natcho allowed the hosts to battle back from 2-0 down to leave the Premier League champions two points behind Roma in Group E at the halfway stage.
However, while CSKA claimed up to 350 fans who were inside the Arena Khimki had been invited by Uefa as part of their ‘Champions Club’, Kompany hit out at the governing body’s decision not to allow visitings fans into the game.
“It is little things like, there aren’t meant to be any fans there, but there are still 500 fans there for them,” he said.
“That isn’t a problem, but I don’t understand where our fans are. Why can’t we bring our fans in?
“The only team being punished here is Manchester City. Little things where I feel we need to speak up sometimes, because it’s nonsense.
“They are the team that got done for racism, not Man City, so why can’t our fans come? If there are 200 or 300 people allowed in for money (sposorship) issues then where are our fans?”
Kompany added: “It leaves a lot of bad feelings. I guess at the moment everyone wants to hear how we think we should have done better and how we feel our performances need to be better in Europe, but I won’t play a part in it.”
