Vincent Kompany provides update on Maxwel Cornet's Burnley future amid Newcastle United links

Vincent Kompany claims Burnley have received a number of 'good offers' for Maxwel Cornet after an impressive opening season in the Premier League. The Ivorian was one of the standout players for the Clarets last season, in a disappointing campaign that ended in relegation.

The new Burnley boss is preparing for life without the 25-year-old, who looks set to leave Turf Moor this summer. Reports claim Cornet has a relegation release clause of £17million inserted into his contract.

"I don't know close it is, it is no secret there is a couple of clubs in for him and a couple of clubs have made good offers," Kompany told LancsLive after the game at Shrewsbury. "We have to prepare probably for a period after him and that is what we are doing. I am not saying Maxwel has gone, he has offers."

Newcastle United, Everton and Nottingham Forest have all been linked with a move for the former Lyon wide man. Eddie Howe's side are in the market for additions in the forward area having already strengthened their back line again this summer.

The Magpies' public pursuit of Hugo Ekitike has not panned out how the club would have liked and they've turned their attention to a number of other options. They're reportedly mulling over club record bids for Alexander Isak or Moussa Diaby, with enough room in the budget for one statement signing.

However, they're also looking at the likes of Jack Harrison, while Cornet and Watford's Emmanuel Dennis have been offered to the club. As for Burnley, they're set to travel to Portugal on Sunday and they'll play Newcastle in a behind closed doors fixture.

At this stage it's unclear whether Cornet will be part of the traveling contingent.
