Video review company Wipster has expanded its potential client base significantly after partnering with global streaming company Vimeo, which has more than 35 million registered members.
Wellington-based start-up Wipster has been in the market for just over a year and already has tens of thousands of users, but chief executive Rollo Wenlock said the exclusive product integration partnership with Vimeo would help grow its international base.
"Our international focus has meant Wipster is now a serious contender in the competitive tech market," Wenlock said.
"[Vimeo] have tens of millions of users, they have just over 700,000 paid users and those are the video producers that we view as our potential customer.
"What we get from a partnership is that we're discoverable by all those people, so they can see us inside the Vimeo product, and Vimeo gets our [software]."
Details around the partnership were commercially sensitive, but Wenlock said it would effectively be business as usual for Wipster customers.
The video review software allowed users to review, approve and comment on video content through the shared platform, with the partnership allowing video content to be imported from Vimeo to Wipster to review and edit before being published back to the user's Vimeo account.
Wenlock said the collaboration provided mutual benefit for both companies and validation for Wipster.
"What is significant for us is that by the biggest video platform in the world for video creatives, Vimeo, choosing to partner with us, they are basically putting us at the top of the pile because we will be accessible to everybody who makes videos," Wenlock said.
Founded in 2004 by a group of film-makers, New York-based Vimeo is one of the largest video-sharing platforms globally, with an audience of 170 million people a month.
