Villarreal taunt Arsenal after Europa League semi-final win with three-word Unai Emery tweet

Villarreal have piled on even more misery for Arsenal.

The La Liga outfit knocked the Gunners out of the Europa League at the semi-final stage on Thursday night, thus denying the prospect of another all-English European final with Manchester United waiting in the wings.

Leading 2-1 from the first-leg, in truth Villarreal were never in too much danger of losing the tie.

Aside from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang hitting the post twice and a brief spell of pressure at the beginning of the second half, clear cut chances were few and far between for Arsenal on what was a disappointing night for manager Mikel Arteta.

To make matters worse for the north London outfit, the man in the opposition dugout over the two ties was none other than their former head coach Unai Emery.

Sacked in November 2019 after 18 months in charge, the Spaniard will have certainly enjoyed his first return to the Emirates Stadium.

And so did the Villarreal Twitter account.

Just over an hour after the final whistle blew in north London, the La Liga side's social media team delivered a three-word verdict on Emery that will sting some Arsenal fans.

As seen in the tweet above, the emphasis of the post was "Unai Emery, Masterclass."

It's not the first time Villarreal have brutally trolled Arsenal across the semi-final tie as they did so after the meeting in Spain last week.

Whilst Arteta was left to rue Dani Ceballos' red card, the Villarreal USA Twitter account aimed a brutal dig at the midfielder.

The post read: "The Ceballos red doesn't change anything. We already had a man advantage with him ON the pitch."
