Villarreal star Pau Torres provides future update amid Manchester United interest

Villarreal Pau Torres is "very calm" over his future amid interest from Manchester United and Real Madrid.

MEN Sport understands that the Spanish defender would be keen on a move to Old Trafford this summer and he is one of the defender United are tracking.

Manchester United are keen to bolster their defensive ranks, as well as signing a striker, and Torres has been identified as a potential recruit to partner Harry Maguire at the heart of their defence.

It is believed Torres has a release clause in his current deal which lies in the region of €60million after he penned a contract extension until 2024 two years ago.

The 24-year-old spoke about his future after helping Villarreal reach the semi-finals of the Europa League on Thursday, where they will face Arsenal.

"I'm very calm, I have a contract with the club in my town and I'm enjoying it. I have to work to help my team," he told Spanish broadcasters Transistor.

MEN Sport understands that several Premier League clubs, including Manchester City, are interested in signing Torres and the defender is open to moving to the Premier League.

Real Madrid are also interested in signing the defender, with Sergio Ramos out of contract and Madrid willing to sell Raphael Varane, who has only one year left on his deal.

MEN Sport understands Madrid are pessimistic about the possibility of their French World Cup winner accepting a new contract and would rather obtain a fee in the summer than let him leave on a free next year.

Varane believes there is still too great a difference between his salary offer and what his best-paid teammates are earning and therefore his future could have a knock-on effort for Torres.
