People not happy with outdoor drum and bass rave taking place this weekend

People living in and around Hightown have raised concerns over a huge outdoor drum and bass and techno festival set to take place this weekend.

The One in the Woods event will take place in Orrell Hill Woods this Saturday and Sunday (August 21 and 22), with a range of artists taking to three different stages at the 5,000 capacity site.

Nearby villages Hightown and Ince Blundell have a combined population of around 2,500 people.

Writing on a neighbourhood app, a number of people living locally have slammed Sefton Council for allowing the event to go ahead.

One woman wrote: "Nobody has informed the people of Ince Blundell, it’s all been passed without our knowledge.

"Not only will this affect the people of Hightown but the traffic will be dreadful. We only found out about this by accident, no warning about what to expect, and it's going to be a nightmare."

Another replied: "It will be awful for both villages [Hightown and Ince Blundell]."

A man said: "Not against a good old rave but it’s the way the sneaky council bypass the rules to suit themselves."

The ECHO understands there will be some traffic measures in place from 8am Saturday-11.59pm Sunday on Orrell Hill Lane, Ince Blundell, Scaffold Lane and Moss Lane.

These are:

  • Temporary waiting restrictions to prevent attendees parking on the narrow roads around the event
  • Signage to direct people to the event
  • Signs to warn motorists of possible pedestrians in the road

Other nearby roads will temporarily close from Monday (August 23) though this is due to road resurfacing works, rather than the festival.

Sefton Council was approached for comment but had not responded by the time of publication.
