Villagers angered over blunder that saw roadworks start more than a week early

Villagers were left raging when planned roadworks near Killearn were started early, cutting off access to a main road.

The works to resurface the carriageway of the A875 were set to start on October 30 and last until November 2.

But locals were shocked to discover contractors already at work on a stretch of the road at Boquhan on Wednesday morning, forcing motorists into unplanned diversions to avoid the blocked route.

The confusion led Killearn Community Council to ask council chiefs for an explanation after they received no notifications of work set to start this week.

And a Stirling Council spokesperson has now apologised after confirming the work was started early due to a mistake by contractors.

The spokesperson told the Observer: “A contractor is carrying out work on our behalf to resurface the carriageway on the A875 near Killearn.

“This was scheduled to begin on Friday, October 30, however, we were made aware on Wednesday, October 21, that work had already begun.

“As a result we contacted the contractor to inform them to halt any work until the start date which was communicated to the community and reopen the road. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
