PATTANI: A villager was killed in a gun attack in Mae Lan district early on Sunday, police said.
Pol Capt Suriya Prommo, a Mae Lan police investigator, said a police team was sent to a house in Moo 6 village in tambon Pa Rai on Sunday morning after they were alerted to the incident, which occurred at about 1am.
The police found Kariya Samae, 30, of Nong Chik district, lying dead behind the house. He had been shot three times in the body.
An initial investigation indicated that Kariya, a rubber tapper, was attacked while visiting a friend in the village.
Police were proceeding with the investigation to establish whether the attack was insurgency-related.
