Village shop workers threatened with weapon as 'armed robber steals cash and cigarettes'

A man allegedly threatened workers at a village newsagent and service station with a hidden weapon in two robberies carried out within minutes of each other.

Avon and Somerset Constabulary is investigating the incidents at the unnamed businesses in Congresbury in North Somerset yesterday morning (August 31).

Police say the service station was targeted at 10.05am, before a nearby newsagent was also robbed five minutes later.

The man threatened staff with a weapon hidden in his jacket before making off with cash and cigarettes in a vehicle.

No-one was hurt in either incident.
