Village 'laughing stock' after years of tiny Christmas trees

A Merseyside village has been branded a "laughing stock" for its woeful attempt at a Christmas tree for a number of years.

Charlotte Woods, chairwoman of Birkdale Civic Society slammed the tree that has sat in the village for years, with Birkdale allegedly becoming the "laughing stock" of Southport. After years of anguish and disappointment, the society is now elated as a new pine tree was placed down next to Spar, towering over the bustling village.

The tree made headlines last year when it was compared to a beanstalk before being replaced by a smaller tree which was branded as "even worse" than the one before. People living in the area will be pleased to know that the all-new tree that has been put in the village has been labelled as "super-special".

Charlotte told the ECHO: "We are absolutely thrilled that after numerous years of being the laughing stock of the town due to the very poor Christmas tree in the village, we now have an amazing tree for all the community to enjoy.

"This wouldn’t have been possible without the fantastic guys at Rainford Christmas Trees and Illumidex who have really gone above and beyond to make 2022 a special year in the village, with a tree that will look magical at our switch on event on November 27.

"As an organisation, we knew that we needed to make sure that after an awful few years for everyone, this year we had something super special to offer our community, and with the help of local ward counsellors and generous donations, we have finally been able to make Birkdale sparkle again."
