Villa Ruchello: Santa Monica mansion once home to Fleetwood Mac on sale for £36 million

A Santa Monica mansion that was once home to members of Fleetwood Mac has gone on sale for $50 million (£36 million).

The Mediterranean-inspired Villa Ruchello is reportedly being sold by Vice Media executive chairman Shane Smith. According to a 2016 interview with Smith in the Wall Street Journal , the house hosted members of the legendary rock band while they recorded a “recent reunion album”.

Smith also admitted in the interview that when he bought the property for $23 million (£16.6 million) in 2015, he did so without ever having visited it.

The eight-bedroom mansion sits on 3.3 acres of land, and boasts two separate guest houses, a music room, a chef’s kitchen, a hammam and a 74-foot swimming pool.

Built in 1932 during America’s prohibition years, the house also features a wine cellar accessible via a secret staircase, as well as its own speakeasy. Decorated with onyx walls, the clandestine bar is hidden behind bookshelves in the house’s library.

Having previously belonged to director Henry Jaglom, the house has also made starring turns in TV series Entourage and the Eddie Murphy film Beverly Hills Cop.

Smith has reportedly spent “millions” refurbishing the property, with the decor now boasting  Venetian glass chandeliers, bespoke mosaic floors and hand-painted ceiling beams.
