Vile Walker beast jailed for repeatedly raping vulnerable child attacked in prison

A sex beast has been involved in a prison fight just days after being locked up for 23 years.

Michael Fitzgerald, also known as David, from Walker, subjected an extremely vulnerable child to a series of sordid attacks from the age of 12.

The 51-year-old was convicted of 20 sex offences, including rapes by a jury at Newcastle Crown Court earlier this month.

Now, Fitzgerald, who will serve at least two-thirds of his sentence behind bars, has been involved in a fight with another prisoner at HMP Durham.

A spokesperson for the Ministry of Justice said: "Two prisoners at HMP Durham were involved in a scuffle on 14 September which was quickly resolved by staff and with no one injured.”

Fitzgerald, formerly of Cullercoats Street, Walker, Newcastle, was found guilty of a series of offences, including several counts of rape, attempted rape, assault by penetration and sexual assault of a child under 13.

At the time of sentencing, the court heard Fitzgerald was convicted of sex offences in 2002 on two boys aged between six and 11, for which he was jailed and placed on the sex offenders register, with restrictions aimed at controlling his contact with children.

The court heard Fitzgerald would be appealing against his latest conviction.
