Vile Swastika scrawled near Morley war memorial by 'sick, uneducated morons'

People of Morley are "angry" after a Swastika was painted on the floor right next to a war memorial.

The highly offensive Nazi symbol has been sprayed onto the pavement next to the cenotaph in Scatcherd Park, Morley, along with other "cowardly" graffiti.

It was first discovered by residents on Saturday, November 14.

A silhouette outline of a solider, which once proudly stood overlooking the park, has also been ripped from its original stance and thrown carelessly onto the floor.

"[It] makes me so angry," said one member of the Morley folk and those from surrounding areas Facebook group.

"What the hell is wrong with some people?!!!!"

Another person commented: "Sick, uneducated morons!"

Someone else said: "Whoever has done it is / are cowards having done this when no one else is around, unlike the soldiers who were brave and proud."

West Yorkshire Police have now launched an investigation and are treating the incident as a hate crime.

Officers from the Leeds South Neighbourhood Policing Team are continuing to carry out enquiries into how the graffiti appeared.

They are particularly keen to hear from anyone who saw the graffiti on or before November 14, when it is believed to have been sprayed onto the path.

Anyone with any information that could assist the investigation is asked to contact the team via 101 quoting crime reference 13200574393 or via the force's online chat service.
